Coweta County is located in the west central part of Georgia. The county seat is Newnan. Coweta County is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, the population was 127,317. The county was created on December 20, 1825 and is named for the Koweta Indians, a Native American tribe that once lived in the area. Today, Coweta County is a growing suburban community, with a mix of agriculture, light industry, and retail businesses. It is known for its historic downtown areas, beautiful parks and recreation areas, and its excellent public school system.
